For these children, the Boys and Girls Club is a safe place where they learn and grow toward being strong adults in our community.
The Club currently has a waiting list of more than 100 children. The clubs are limited by space, but more than that they are limited by the need for more staff and volunteers. Needs at the club include maintenance projects, donations of supplies, volunteers to lead weekly classes, mentors and more.
If you or your church would like to partner with the
Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia, you may contact either our Acts 1:8 team director, Sherri Brown at: sb100@aol.com, Troup Baptist Association Associational Missionary, Rev. Wish List for The Boys & Girls Clubs:
Here are some needs where our churches can step in and make a difference: Maintenance *The club would like to develop an on-call list of people willing to do free maintenance and repair. Among the on-going needs are:
Donations The club runs year round, including holidays, and always need to replenish supplies:
Transportation Sponsors are needed to help fund the bus that picks up children from school and takes them to the club. Sponsorship can include having your business logo on the side of their bus. Volunteers Volunteers are always needed to provide weekly classes for students at the club. The class can be one hour a week, or several times a week, according to volunteer schedules. Programs the club would like to see this year:
Summer 2013, LaGrange The summer program theme at the club is environmental exploration education. They would love to have guest speakers and volunteers to help with specific projects during the summer program. Summer 2013, Hogansville The summer program is “Back to the Future,” focusing on a different decade each week beginning with the 1920s. The students will learn history, clothing, food, life style of each decade. Guest speakers or items from these time periods would be great. Mentors Some club members would benefit from ongoing once-a-week mentors who are willing to build a relationship with them. The mentor program is on-site (at the club) and does not include meeting outside the club. Torch Club The club needs a volunteer to lead the Torch Club. This is 4th-6th grade leadership community club. They take on small projects in the community and conduct their own fundraisers (like a coin drive for United Way) to fund projects. *If your church, organization within your church, or you as an individual would like to help the Boys & Girls Club with any of these needs, please contact Bart McFadden at: 706.812.9698, bart_mcfadden@yahoo.com, or visit them on the web at: www.bngcwga.org |
