September Announcements from Churches
Association - The 3rd annual Statewide Prayer Conference, Speechless 2010, is just around the corner. They have returning this year: Dr. J. Robert White, Randy Sprinkle, Chris Schofield, Emir Caner and Elaine Helms. New this year will be Fayiz Saknini, Mark Mirza and leading music, Rhon Carter. GBC thanks you in advance for your prayers and support as they make plans to gather in Norman Park, September 27-28. They appreciate your consideration and communication of this conference to others in your church. They are asking pastors and their churches to set aside time every 3rd Monday of the month through September, to pray for this special time with the Father at Speechless 2010. Association - The annual Life Chain event will be on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 2:30-3:30 pm. You are invited to join LIFECHAIN 2010, one hour of silent prayer to end abortion. Join with others, all silently holding uniform, pr-life signs, which will be provided. Assemble in the St. Peter’s Catholic Church parking lot at 2:15 pm. Participants will line the streets at the intersection of LaFayette Parkway and Morgan Street. Give yourself time to park so that you are in place by 2:30 pm. Association - GBC’s Church-Minister Relations announces Wellness Retreats for Ministers. Ministers and their spouses who do not have health insurance or whose policy does not cover preventative care are eligible to participate. The free retreat will consist of complete health and dental screenings by physicians as well as time for spiritual renewing, gathering information regarding health and wellness, finances, available resources through the GBC, and on-site consultations with GBC staff. Retreats are Sept. 20-22 at the GBC Conference Center at Toccoa and Oct. 11-13 at the GBC Conference Center at Norman park. Registration is required. Association - The Executive Committee will meet on Thursday, September 23 at 7 pm at Sunnyside. This is a very important meeting as the new slate of officers and the new budget for the coming year will need to be approved. If you are a pastor or executive committee member, please put this on your calendars now and make plans to attend so that we will be sure we have the quorum we need in order to be able to conduct business
Association - ACP’s, Annual Church Profiles, have been mailed to all churches. Pastors, please make certain someone fills out the profiles and returns them to the association office or does them on-line by Friday, October 8. We need the information from the profiles to complete the Book of Reports for our annual meeting which will be on Monday, October 18 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Baptist Tabernacle - Will celebrate their 66th Homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 3. They invite you to come worship and celebrate with them. Their AWANA program will start Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 pm. They are excited to help train children to know, love, and serve Christ and influence their spiritual lives. Contact the church office for more information about their AWANA program. The food closet is open every Thursday from 9 am-11 am for those in need.
Bethel - Will have baptisms on Sept. 12 to baptize those saved during their August revival. Everyone is invited to join them for this special service. A church work day is scheduled for Sept. 11. They will have a women’s fellowship and Bible study each Thursday night in September at 6:30 pm with monthly meetings to follow. All women are invited to join them. They are in the planning stages for Homecoming in October.
Callaway - On Sept. 12, they will celebrate their 100th Homecoming. Services begin at 10 am with Pastor Ronnie Jordan bring the message, music by Envoy, and then dinner on the grounds. A dedication service for their new sanctuary will be at 1:30 pm with Pastor Bobby Robinson bringing the dedication message. They invite everyone to come celebrate with them as they look back at how the Lord has blessed them over the past 100 years of Callaway Baptist Church. Also, on Sept. 11 they will have a church picnic/open house tour from 11 am-2 pm.
Concord - Brothers’ meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 pm. Dr. Richard Hanner will be the speaker. All men are welcome.
Confidence - Will be having their Pastor’s Anniversary celebration for Pastor Michael Jackson on September 19. Pastor Jake Russell of Saint Smyrna Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.
Creekside - Will have a BBQ fundraiser on Oct. 8 from 11 am-2pm. Cost of each plate is $8 and includes BBQ, homemade stew, chips, bread, and pickles. Delivery is available with a purchase of 8 or more plates. Plates can also be picked up from the Pure Station on Hamilton Road at Davis Road. See any Creekside member or call Sharon Geter at 706-402-2369 to purchase tickets. All proceeds benefit Creekside Building Fund. For Young at Hearts date and time, please contact Janet Geter. The children’s church will hold a Spaghetti Supper on Sept. 18. See Diane Williams or Mandy Barber for details. Children’s church is also holding a raffle for a fall wreath that was made by the children. Tickets are $1. Brotherhood will be held on Sept. 18 at 8 am in the fellowship hall. Sisterhood will also be on the 18th at 9 am in the parsonage and the study will be on Dorcus.
Dunson - Homecoming will be Oct. 3, 2010 beginning at 10:30 am with special singing. Guest speaker will be Reverend Evan Smith, the former minister of music and youth at Dunson Baptist Church from 1980-1986. Evan is currently pastor at Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church in Ridgeway, SC. Evan and wife Meg have three children: Nathan, Matthew, and Anna. Evan is a LaGrange, GA native. They invite everyone for a wonderful time of singing, worship, and reunion of family & friends!
East Vernon - Homecoming Day will be Sunday, Sept. 12. Their special guests will be Higher Hope. Services will begin at 10:30 am with lunch to follow. There will be no Sunday School nor evening service that day. Everyone is invited to join them and enjoy the service.
First Baptist on the Square - Is hosting the Beth Moore Living Proof Simulcast on Saturday, Sept. 18. Doors will open at 9 am. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Highland - Homecoming is scheduled for Sept. 12 at
11 am. Rev. Ricky Todd will be the guest speaker; special music will be provided by Charles and Sherry Spradlin. WMU will sponsor a baby shower for the Pregnancy Center in LaGrange during the month of September.
Lakeview - Homecoming will be October 3. Services start at 10:30 am and there will be no Sunday School nor any evening services that day. There will be special singing and great preaching. Everyone is invited.
Lighthouse - They are preparing to kick off a financial workshop with Dave Ramsey’s Financial Freedom. If you are interested in getting out of debt, call 706-957-8432 for more information. Classes will start soon. Pastor Paul Cruz’s wife Shannon is teaching piano at the church every Wednesday; call her at 706-957-8474 if you need a piano teacher (limited space available). Starting Oct. 3 at 6 pm, they will host their very first Sunday night service. Everyone is welcome. You can tune in 24/7 to their very own internet radio station. Just go to their web page www.lwc1.org and click on “His Voice Radio” to be blessed with the music, messages, and teaching 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you are unable to attend church, you can hear their services live every Sunday morning starting at 10 am with great music.
Mountville - They began prayer walks at some of our local schools beginning with Callaway Elementary on Sunday, Aug. 29. They will continue these walks for the next couple of months and encourage anyone interested in joining them to call the church at 706-882-7954. They are excited to announce their fall revival that will begin on Sunday, October 3 and then continue for that week. They will be sharing services with Sunnyside Baptist. They will alternate nights at Mountville and at Sunnyside. Everyone is welcome to join them for what is sure to be a blessing.

Reeds Chapel - They are approaching their 100th anniversary milestone; anniversary festivities are being planned and details will be announced when plans are finalized.
Rosemont - They are excited to announce the beginning of a new worship service at 8:30 am in the Fellowship Hall. This service includes the same sermon as the 9:30 and 11:30 am services but with hymn music. In September, they will dedicate and open the new building on their youth campus for their youth grades 6 through 12. Mommy Matters, formerly known as MOPS, will meet at Rosemont on Monday, Sept. 13 & 27 at 9:30 am in the Fellowship Hall. This group is made up of moms who meet to encourage and support each other through devotionals, guest speakers, crafts, and mission projects. Shoal Creek - Refuge, a back-to-school youth event will be held on Sept. 10 at the church– 1032 Youngs Mill Road. Ben Ivey will be the worship leader and Marc Pritchett will be a featured speaker. Activities begin at 6 pm and then at 8 pm there will be food and fun. A hotdog combo served on a souvenir Frisbee will be $5; extra treats will be available. All church youth groups are invited to attend. Love offering will be taken; proceeds go to the student ministry.
Stovall - They are in need of a piano player for Sunday morning and evening services. For more information, contact their pastor, Rev. Randy Foxworth, at 706-577-5864 or Mr. David Scott at 706-594-7206. They are located at 14 Hardy St., Greenville, GA– about 1/4 mile past the Meriwether County line off Stovall Road. The ladies’ group is taking orders for the RADA knife products for another month. To place an order or see a catalog, please contact Kim Albertson at 706-302-1780. The ladies’ are planning a fall festival for October; a specific date will be announced next month. They will have food, free games for the children, cake walk, silent auction, and many other activities. This is always a wonderful celebration and the smiles on the faces of the children at the Cake Walk are such a blessing.
