School of Youth Minsitry

Slots are still available for anyone wishing to sign up for the School of Youth Ministry. This is a kind of ongoing practical application training being offered at the association level that is designed to benefit the youth workers (paid and volunteer) in our local churches.   As a direct result of a meeting with Scott Kindig of GBC about this need, the Troup Baptist Association is working with Scott to lead a pilot project (first in the state of Georgia!) entitled: School of Youth Ministry. The School of Youth Ministry will focus on mentoring and training youth workers on an ongoing basis. It will be similar to the Sunday School Mentoring Process the association is already doing.
On June 12th, we had an association-wide information-sharing meeting with Scott regarding this wonderful opportunity. Scott shared the following information about the School of Youth Ministry.

The Process:

  • It is a mentoring process. Each participant will be assigned a Georgia Baptist Convention Certified Youth Worker Coach who will contact them at least once every 2 weeks during this training
  • There will be three books assigned for each youth worker to read
  • Each youth worker will be responsible for developing & implementing one personal project
  • There will be 8 sessions of 2 ½-hours each over a period of 8 months

Sessions:

1.    Overview: Where youth ministry stands
2.    Personal development
3.    Leadership development
4.    Disciple making
5.    Parent/family matters
6.    Worship: Personal, services, camps
7.    Outreach: Friendship, influence, and multiplication
8.    Administration: How to get it all done

The first session will be held August 18th from 6-8:30 p.m. at the JC McMillian Family life Center at Baptist Tabernacle on South Davis Road in LaGrange. A meal will be served. These training sessions are scheduled for every 3rd Tuesday of the month for 8 months. The location for the training will vary from month to month. The location for the next meeting will be announced at each meeting. The cost for the training is: $25 per youth worker – maximum $50 per church.

I encourage all youth workers (paid & volunteer) to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity that is being presented to you.
We are hopeful (not guaranteed) that upon completion of the school the youth workers will receive an accredited certificate of completion form New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
